Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ Regarding Jacques Giordano Solar Showers
Q: What is the warranty on the Jacques Giordano Solar Shower?
A: 3 years
Q: How difficult is it to install?
A: The Solar Shower is relatively easy to set up. The 525200 and the 535290 SS model are essentially assembled in the carton. You bolt it together with the 4 bolts, washers and nuts that are supplied. You have to decide how you plan on mounting the shower base. Some people install it onto an existing concrete patio by drilling 4 lag bolts. An optional mounting bracket is available for those who plan on pouring a new patio or want to pour a pad for the shower installation. Other people install the shower on a wood deck or platform. You have many installation options available.
Q: Is there scald protection?
A: No. You have to adjust the hot/cold water taps initially to be sure the water spray is not too hot.
Q: How warm or hot can the water get?
A: Typically, we see temperatures that are around 125-135 degrees Fahrenheit. The shower solar tube that is built into the shower arm is simply placed in the sun.
Q: How long does it take to get the temperature up?
A: Usually in less than 2 hours.
Q: Does the shower deliver warm water even if the sun is not shining?
A: Yes! The Giordano Solar Shower patented SolTub collector will grab heat from the ambient temperature to increase the temperature in the collector tube. The shower won’t be as hot or warm as it would be if the sun was shining, however, the temperature will be as warm if not warmer than what most solar showers deliver when installed in the hot sun. The key here is the SolTub patented solar collector. This feature alone costs more than most solar showers sell for retail.
Q: I see a Solar Shower advertised where there are solar collectors in the base. How does this differ from the Giordano Solar Shower?
A: This Solar Shower is only capable of getting the water temperature up to around 88 degrees Fahrenheit. Our shower temperature goes at least 45-50 degrees higher. This means longer showers with hot/warm water. There are showers and there are showers if you know what I mean.
Q: Why is the Jacque Giordano Solar Shower more expensive than most?
A: One word, QUALITY. The Giordano Solar Shower has proven technology. The Giordano solar shower has been made since the early 1980’s. Manufactured in France, it incorporates state of the art technology that works year after year in your backyard or pool area. In 2008 there is an inexpensive Solar Shower that is manufactured in China where the Distributor cost is $39.95. This is the cost for the entire shower. It is nothing more than a piece of black PVC pipe that is capped top and bottom to hold water, has a shower head and a garden hose adapter input on the bottom. Sure it’s cheap. Retailers are offering it at $149.00-$189.00. You’ll see plenty of retailers and web site offering this shower. Buyers of this shower should read the merchants return policy before purchasing. The hot/cold water control taps alone on the Jacques Giordano Solar Shower have a Distributor cost of $56.70, almost $17.00 more than the other complete shower that is made in China. If you want a shower that works, you need a Jacques Giordano.
Q: Are parts available for the Jacques Giordano Solar Shower?
A: Yes. Unique Solutions is a USA Distributor for the products. Generally speaking, the only item you will need to replace within 10 years is usually the SolTub solar collector that is installed along the back of the shower uprights. However, if any other part is needed, we have them in stock.
Q: Can I plumb a water line to the shower instead of using a garden hose?
A: Yes. Many of our customers do just that. Simply run a 3/4 “ pvc pipeline to the shower and make the connection at the shower base inlet.
Q: How long does the Giordano Solar Shower stay hot/warm?
A: Usually about 7-9 minutes. You have 5.5 gallons of hot water in the solar tube and you are slowly mixing cooler water from the inlet with the cold water tap opened on the shower frame. Mixing cooler water with the hot water gives you ample time to take many “fast rinse” showers or a few extended showers.
Q: Why is the Original Teak shower so expensive?
A: This shower is made from 60 year old plantation Indonesian teakwood. Plus, it has lots of teak in it. This shower is not only a functional unit but is one that complements any home or pool area. If the wood look is what you are about, this shower says it all. It is shipped in 3 cartons and has a large teak base that goes with it. Teak is expensive wood. It lasts a long time with little to no maintenance. The look is absolute stunning.
